DIANE CHERRY

Family Lawyer

I’m not a fan of all the pomp and circumstance that you find in most attorney bios.  If you want to read about the stuff that attorneys like to brag about, you can find that below where I have listed “Just the Facts.”

Personally, I think you can learn a lot more about a person by delving deeper into how they view their role as advisors and what their approach is to litigation.  You may have heard about lawyers who think they are the smartest people in a room who like to tell you about all of the wonderful things they have done to help the poor, the starving and the needy.  I’m not one of those attorneys.  I try to demystify the law and make it easy to grasp the process and pitfalls from the beginning to the end of your divorce, custody, modification, adoption or other family law case.

Family lawyers play a crucial role in Georgia, providing valuable legal assistance and guidance in matters related to family law. Here are some reasons why you might need a family lawyer in Georgia:

  1. Divorce and Separation: Family lawyers can assist individuals going through the process of divorce or separation. They can help with matters such as property division, child custody and visitation rights, spousal support, and child support. Having a family lawyer ensures that your rights and interests are protected during this often emotionally challenging time.

  2. Child Custody and Visitation: When parents separate or divorce, child custody and visitation arrangements need to be determined. Family lawyers can help negotiate and establish custody agreements that are in the best interests of the child. They can guide you through the legal process and advocate for your rights as a parent.

  3. Child and Spousal Support: Family lawyers can assist in determining appropriate child support and spousal support amounts. They can help calculate the financial obligations of each party, considering factors such as income, expenses, and the needs of the child or spouse. A family lawyer can also ensure that support orders are enforced and modified as circumstances change.

  4. Adoption and Surrogacy: If you are considering adoption or surrogacy, a family lawyer can guide you through the legal process. They can help you understand the requirements, complete necessary paperwork, and represent your interests during court proceedings. Having legal representation ensures that the adoption or surrogacy process goes smoothly and that your rights as a prospective parent are protected.

  5. Domestic Violence and Restraining Orders: Family lawyers can assist individuals facing domestic violence situations by helping them obtain restraining orders or protective orders. They can provide legal advice, gather evidence, and represent clients in court to ensure their safety and protection.

  6. Paternity Issues: In cases where paternity is in question, family lawyers can help establish or challenge paternity through legal proceedings. They can guide you through DNA testing, represent you in court, and help establish parental rights and responsibilities.

  7. Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution: Family lawyers in Georgia often have training and experience in mediation and alternative dispute resolution methods. They can help parties reach mutually agreeable solutions without going through lengthy and costly court battles. Mediation can be particularly beneficial in resolving issues related to divorce, child custody, and support.

  8. Estate Planning and Wills: Family lawyers can assist in creating and updating estate plans, including drafting wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. They can help ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes and provide guidance on complex estate planning matters.

These are just some of the reasons why you might need a family lawyer in Georgia. Family law matters can be emotionally charged and legally complex, so having a knowledgeable and experienced family lawyer by your side can provide valuable support and protect your rights throughout the process.
