DAVID CHRISTENSEN
Accident Injury Lawyer
David E. Christensen founded Christensen Law in 2014 to give clients the individualized attention that they need after serious accidents. “I really enjoy taking care of people,” he says. “I like slaying large corporations on their behalf and protecting them when their lives are destroyed.”
A native of California, Christensen has a bachelor’s degree in international relations from San Francisco State University. He obtained both his master’s degree and his law degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After first handling corporate legal matters, he became interested in personal injury law and worked at a large firm for about two decades before branching out on his own. “With a large volume firm, you can’t have close relationships with clients,” he says. “The number one complaint about personal injury attorneys is poor communication. No client is ever going to complain about that with us.”
The firm’s guiding principle of client service first is proudly displayed on the wall at the Christensen Law offices: Listen. Protect. Win. At Christensen Law, the attorneys and staff pride themselves on being accessible and ready to listen to clients to about their circumstances, stresses, and any questions they may have. “We try to protect them – take over managing their medical care, and try to relieve their burdens and carry them for them,” Christensen says.
The dedicated attorneys also aim to win maximum judgments and settlements for their clients to alleviate future distress. “We make sure this case provides them with the compensation they will need. We want to safeguard their future and give them that security.”
A highly respected trial attorney, Christensen has a top-notch reputation in Michigan when it comes to personal injury, auto accident, and brain injury cases. He holds an “AV Preeminent” rating from the respected legal network Martindale-Hubbell, recognizing him for the highest legal ability and ethical standards, is repeatedly ranked as one of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Lawyers” and was named “Lawyer of the Year” for 2019 for representing plaintiffs in Detroit in personal injury litigation. In addition, Christensen was one of only 25 attorneys in 2012 to be named a “Leader in the Law” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly, was lauded as one of the top 100 lawyers in Michigan and top 50 consumer lawyers in Michigan, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his distinguished career, as recognized by Michigan Lawyers Weekly in 2021.
Terry Cochran
Accident Injury Lawyer
Terry Cochran has limited his practice to representing individuals who have sustained serious personal injuries including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, severe burns, loss of earning ability, psychiatric and psychological trauma, exposure to toxins and other life altering events. Because serious personal injuries arise from various circumstances of life, Terry Cochran has mastered the law of auto negligence, Michigan no fault benefits, worker’s compensation, slip and fall, and more.
As a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association, Terry Cochran has obtained verdicts in excess of millions of dollars including a case against Tuscola County Road Commission (highway design defect) wherein the jury returned a verdict in favor of Mr. Cochran’s Client (a traumatic brain injury survivor) in the amount of Twelve ($12,000,000) Million Dollars. The verdict against the Tuscola County Road Commission is one of the top ten largest gross verdicts ever returned in a personal injury lawsuit in the state of Michigan!
Similarly, in a lawsuit against Sun Advertising Inc., the insurance company (insurer of the negligent truck driver) refused to offer Terry Cochran’s Client (70 year old with a herniated disk) anything more than Ninety ($90,000) Thousand Dollars, although admitting that their insured was at fault. Mr. Cochran persuasively requested Four Hundred and Ninety ($490,000) Thousand Dollars. The jury, however, returned a verdict in excess of Six Hundred ($600,000) Thousand Dollars!
Although the results reached against the Tuscola County Road Commission and Sun Advertising Inc. cannot be guaranteed in your case, their results are indicative of Terry Cochran’s trial success.
When you retain Terry Cochran to protect your rights, he promises to diligently pursue your claim and keep you advised as your case progresses. Initially, you will meet with Mr. Cochran to review your case in detail. The meeting may last an hour or two. In some cases, more than one meeting may be necessary if the case is particularly complicated. However, when you leave his office, you will be satisfied that you are retaining an attorney who will take the time to understand the case and pursue your rights vigorously.

The Great Lakes Gamble: Why You Need a Top-Tier Accident Lawyer in Michigan
Michigan, the “Great Lakes State,” beckons with its stunning coastlines, vibrant cities, and rich automotive history. Yet, even amidst the beauty and innovation, accidents can occur. Whether it’s a fender bender on a snowy Detroit freeway, a slip and fall on a slick Mackinac Island sidewalk, or a dog bite at a picturesque Upper Peninsula park, experiencing an injury due to someone else’s negligence can be disorienting and leave you feeling overwhelmed. This is where a top-tier accident lawyer in Michigan steps in, becoming your trusted advisor and fierce advocate throughout your legal journey. This comprehensive guide explores the invaluable benefits of retaining a skilled accident lawyer who will fight relentlessly to ensure you receive fair compensation for your losses.
Understanding Michigan’s Unique Legal Landscape and Protecting Your Rights
Michigan operates under a “modified comparative negligence” system. This means the amount of compensation you receive depends on the percentage of fault attributed to you. However, Michigan’s “no-fault” auto insurance system adds an additional layer of complexity. Understanding these systems and securing the compensation you deserve necessitates a deep understanding of Michigan personal injury law:
- Know Your Rights: Michigan law allows you to seek compensation for various damages after an accident, including medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, property damage, and out-of-pocket expenses. A knowledgeable accident lawyer in Michigan ensures you understand the full range of damages you can claim, regardless of fault, and fights for the maximum compensation you deserve.
- Understanding Michigan’s No-Fault System: Michigan requires drivers to carry no-fault insurance, which pays for medical expenses regardless of fault, up to a limit set by your policy. A skilled attorney can explain the nuances of no-fault benefits and help you navigate the claims process.
- Gathering Evidence: Building a strong case hinges on meticulous evidence gathering. A skilled attorney collects accident reports, police reports, medical records, witness testimonies, photographs of the scene, and car damage to support your claim.
- Negotiating with Insurance Companies: Insurance companies often attempt to settle claims for the lowest amount possible. A seasoned Michigan accident lawyer negotiates aggressively on your behalf, ensuring you receive a fair settlement that reflects the full extent of your injuries and losses, whether through your no-fault coverage or by pursuing a third-party liability claim if applicable.
- Understanding Medical Bills: Medical bills after an accident can quickly escalate. Your attorney can review your medical bills for accuracy and work with healthcare providers to negotiate reduced rates, minimizing your financial burden.
- Understanding Michigan Statute of Limitations: Michigan has strict time limits for filing personal injury lawsuits, typically three years from the date of the accident. Your lawyer ensures you meet all deadlines and file your claim within the designated timeframe.
Beyond Legal Expertise: The Qualities of a Top-Tier Accident Lawyer in Michigan
Not all accident attorneys are created equal. Here’s what sets the best Michigan accident lawyers apart:
- Extensive Experience in Michigan Personal Injury Law: In-depth knowledge of Michigan’s specific personal injury laws, precedents, insurance regulations, and the complexities of the no-fault system is crucial. Look for an attorney with a proven track record of success handling cases similar to yours in your specific region of Michigan.
- Focus on Accident Law: Experience matters. Seek an attorney who specializes in personal injury law, ensuring they possess the specific expertise and resources needed to effectively manage your case and navigate the complexities of accident litigation in Michigan.
- Familiarity with Your Specific Location: Understanding local traffic patterns, common accident zones, and healthcare resources in your Michigan city or town can be advantageous. A local attorney may be more familiar with these nuances and their potential impact on your case.
- Compassion and Understanding: Coping with injuries and navigating the legal aftermath of an accident can be physically, emotionally, and financially taxing. Your lawyer should approach your case with empathy, providing emotional support and guidance throughout the process.
- Clear Communication and Accessibility: Clear and consistent communication is vital. A top-tier attorney keeps you informed on case developments, answers your questions promptly, and addresses your concerns openly and honestly.
- Competitive Fees and Flexible Payment Structures: Many accident attorneys work on a contingency fee basis, meaning you only pay if they win your case. Discuss fee structures upfront to ensure transparency and explore options that fit your financial circumstances.
Finding the Right Advocate: Resources for Legal Representation in Michigan
